According to history, years ago, Vinisitahan was like a virgin forest inhabited by wild animals. Migrants, who have stayed in the place cleared the area and converted the place into a wide agricultural area where corn, vegetables and other root crops were grown. Later on, merchants from other places came to trade with the natives. These merchants/traders or "VISITAS" identified the name of the barangay "VINISITAHAN".
The school site measuring 5,972 square meters was donated by Pastor Martinez in 1965 in order to open an elementary school. However, in 1993, the elementary school was phased-out due to lack of enrolment. Knowing the necessity of having a public secondary school in order to serve the less fortunate students and consequently avail of the free education that the national government provides, the Sangguniang Bayan ng Bacacay, Albay through Hon. Mayor Eligio Berango made a resolution to the former DECS (now DepEd) Secretary Honorable Armand Fabella to authorize the Municipality of Bacacay to open a public secondary school. The resolution numbered 49, series of 1993 was approved by the Sangguniang Bayan of Bacacay on April 13, 1993. In June 1993, Vinisitahan High School was opened and was funded by the Local Governement of Bacacay with five (5) pioneer teachers namely: Mrs. Ma. Novelita B. Sabanal (former Ms. Bañal), Miss Cristina R. Barbadillo, Mr. Edwin Basilla, Mr. Nestor Capil and Mr. Benjamin L. Dato. On June 1995, the school was absorbed by the Department of Education Culture and Sports. Mr. Efren B. Barja as the first school administrator, thus the chronology of administrators namely Mr. Efren Barja, Mrs. Nenita Pura, Mrs. Edney Bolivar, Miss Violeta Millete, Miss Elena Balcueva, Mrs. Evelyn Camasis, Mrs. Rosie Bolofer, Mrs. Gundelina Obias, Mr. Gil Buarao, Mr. Efren B. Bejerano, Mr. Romualdo A. Bernal, Ms. Ruby T. Odsinada, Mrs. Jane Sy Tiao Revilla and Mrs. Margie B. Corral the incumbent.
In 1993, all existing high schools were nationalized thus Vinisitahan High School became Vinisitahan National High School.
When the school started to operate for the first time, it had a total of 179 students. As the enrolment rose, it created a corresponding increase in the demand for new teachers. Hence in 1996, seven (7) new teachers were added to cope with the need of expanding populace. These teachers were Mrs. Merle Bernarte, Mrs. Mirriam B. Beltran (former Miss Barcela). Mrs. Mary Ann Baroma, Mrs. Amy de Guzman, Mrs. Marlene Bermas, Mrs. Marrieta B. Bercasio and Mr. Dan B. Barnedo. In 1998, six more teachers were added (Miss Nilda Bernarte, Mrs. Elsa Balute, Mrs. Maria Rita Barnedo (former Miss Berango), Miss Ma. Concepcion Barcenas (former Ms. Ariola), Ms. Emma Napoles (former Miss Barcenas), Mr. Joeframil Sto. Domingo and Mrs. Jocelyn B. Bobier, making a total of 18 teachers. For almost a decade 1998-2007 it had a remarkable increase in enrolment and only one (1) teacher item was added.
In 2008 the school absorbed three (3) additional teachers (Mr. Rommel Marquez, Mrs. Irene Marquez (former Ms. Abril) and Mr. Jerry M. Maravilla) to address the need due to the growing student population of the school.
In 2009, three (3) additional science teachers (Mrs. Marites B. Bermeo (former Ms. Balaguer), Ms. Mercy B. Maravilla (former Ms. Barberan) and Ms. Leila Belardo (former Ms. Balasta) and one (1) Filipino teacher, Mrs. Mary Rose B. Cambaya were added to the faculty. The school are also acquired the service of two (2) Administrative staff (Ms. Josefa Basco and Ms. Mae Jean Opeña (former Ms. Bañares). But one faculty member retired from the service, Mrs. Elsa Balute.
From 2011 to 2016, the following teachers were added to the faculty members of the school, to wit; Ms. Annalisa B. Bataller (2011), Mrs. Madonna Paciencia B. Bellen (2011), Mr. Ryan B. Bata (2011), Ms. Aphrodite A. Bechayda (2012), Mrs. Susana B. Tabelisma (2013), Mrs. Michelle B. Bertillo (2013), Mr. Bernardino T. Adornado (2013), Mr. Melchor S. Belardo (2014), Ms. Ruby V. Florencio (2014), Ms. Socorro B. Consulta (former Ms. Basilan) (2014), Mrs. Marilou B. Belano (2015), Mrs. Rechie L. Fernandez (2015), Ms. Marceline B. Serrano (2015), Mr. Allan M. Loterte (2016), Mrs. Aileen B. Luci (2016), Ms. Gerlyn B. Bino (2016), Mrs. Marianeth B. Bañares (former Ms. Bisoña) (2016), Mrs. Amalia T. Bermundo (2016), and Mrs. Melanie B. Borja (2016).
In 2016, the Department of Education started the implementation of K to 12 Basic Education Program to Grade 7 to Grade 12 with (4) pioneer SHS teachers namely: Mr. Rommel B. Marquez, Mr. Allan M. Loterte, Mr. Ryan Bata and Mr. Jerry M. Maravilla. The school also acquired the service of SHS Administrative Staff, Mrs. Karen B. Bermundo. In the same year Ms. Rechie L. Fernandez was added to the Senior High School faculty member.
In 2017, additional SHS TVL teachers were added namely: Mrs. Ma. Bernadette B. Vergara, Mrs. Raquel V. Ricafort, and Mrs. Jocelyn B. Bobier (eventually transferred to San Isidro NHS). In the Academic Track, Mr. Noel John B. Vergara (Probationary Teacher) and Mr. John Dominic B. Bermas were added.
Also in 2017, three teachers were added to the Junior high school department namely: Mr. Joy B. Baraquiel, Mr. Joed B. Revereza, Mr. Carlo Jay B. Belarmino and Mrs. Johanna B. Berdin.
In 2018, three (3) teacher were added to the SHS faculty, Mr. Rechel J. Jasmin, Mrs. Jeanette B. Lorenzo, Mr. Jojohn A. Bandola (transferred from Sogod NHS) and eight (8) teachers were added to the JHS faculty members, Ms. Leonor B. Fabellore, Ms. Ella Mae R. Barbadillo, Ms. Judith B. Salvadora, Ms. Julie Ann A. Ballaran and Ms. Lyra B. Bedis, Mrs. Aileen B. Barotilla (transferred from Naga NHS), Ms. Pamela Rose B. Baraquiel and Mr. Jeff P. Seminiano (transferred from San Pablo NHS).
In 2019, two teacher were added, one in JHS and one in SHS, namely Ms. Claudette Pearl B. Buban and Mrs. Rowena D. Belga ( transferred from Cabasan NHS).
At present, the school has 1,444 students, 41 JHS teachers, 11 SHS teachers, 1 head teacher, 3 administrative staff and a principal.
The school occupies a total land area of 5,972 sq.m. There are 31 permanent school buildings with 28 classrooms and average total population of 1,500.
